RHUM loves Everything You Know Is Wrong @ MICF 2010

Written by Randall Stephens

Confession: I hate pandas. Admittedly the list of things I hate isn’t a short one, but still, ever since I saw David Attenborough’s Planet Earth and realised the full extent of the panda's utter unsuitability to survive on this planet, I’ve kind of had it in for the gentle panda bear, conservationism or not.

It turns out that the creators of the new show Everything You Know is Wrong! basically have some of the same issues with pandas that I do. We are more or less keeping the damn things alive artificially: they don’t eat proper, won’t fuck – literally to save themselves, and are generally lame and half-arsed at this whole staying alive business. They’re cute and fuzzy, so we want to save them - and millions of dollars have been spent by zoological specialists around the world trying to get them to mate. However, ask yourself: would we do the same for a species of giant spiders if they were endangered?

Just something to think about…because this show will give you a lot to think about.

Everything You Know is Wrong! is a fast-paced, mind-nourishing, deftly presented show, which challenges some of our basic preconceptions of society and psychology while packing in a lot of laughs. Concepts of individuality, culture, economics, cosmology and neuroscience all come under fire as the two presenters banter back and forth.

It’s rare to see such a successful blend of humour with thought provoking material.  It’s quite unlike any other show I’ve seen at the comedy festival this year, and it's well worth taking the trip out to Carlton to see them at the Dan O'Connell hotel, at least to discover what pandas bears get up to via the accompanying slide show.

Do your brain the favour, you owe it one!

Chuckle Factor: 7/10
