Bats EP released February 26 Featuring covers by Clare Bowditch and Oh Mercy It’s been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so we’re proud to announce that Paul Dempsey’s ‘Bats’ EP is being released on February 26 with covers of ‘Out The Airlock’ by Clare Bowditch and ‘Ramona Was A Waitress’ by 2010 AMP nominees Oh Mercy. ‘Bats’ is the stunning opening track on Paul’s ‘Everything Is True’ album. ‘Out The Airlock’ and ‘Ramona Was A Waitress’ were the first two singles from the album. Clare Bowditch said, “I really enjoyed interpreting Out of the Airlock. It's a really wonderful story, told with the kind of wit and dry humour that Paul is so famous for. As I sang it I kept imagining this poor beleaguered special undercover agent who goes out to work every day, nearly gets killed, calls home alive, only to be told off by his girlfriend because he's not home and she's cooked a special meal and "Where are you!?!? YOU SAID YOU'D BE HOME AT 6!". And he adores her and keeps trying to explain what has happened but all she cares about is the human in him, not the super-hero. She just wants him home. I have no idea at all what Paul was thinking when he wrote this, but that's what I was thinking when I sung it. It was a pleasure to do.” Alexander Gow of Oh Mercy said, "We are familiar with Paul Dempsey through growing up listening to Triple J, both with Something For Kate and now his solo album. Thomas and I chose 'Ramona Was A Waitress' as it was the one song we had heard the most from the album, and we both liked the lyrics. Rather than perform a straight cover, we decided to not listen to Paul's song again but make our own song using his lyrics. We recently met Paul at Southbound... Hopefully he likes what we have done." Paul is about to take his ‘Burning Leaves’ national tour on the road and indeed it’s from the opening line of ‘Bats’ that the tour takes its name - “Come rebuild your memory with a small mountain of burning leaves”. Taking to the road with Paul will be very special guests Dan Kelly and his Dream Band*. This will be Paul’s one and only Australian headline tour for 2010 before relocating to New York City for the remainder of the year to play shows and begin writing the new Something for Kate album.
