REVIEW: MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL (MICF2012): Christophe Davidson (CAN): The Time Of Your Life @ The Tuxedo Cat

Written by Jaye Weatherburn

Christophe Davidson MICF 2012

Things Christophe taught me:

1.    Penises don't like being touched by greasy cold-pizza fingers.
2.    When stuck in an embarrassing pit of shame, why not dance your way out of it?
3.    Pigeons aren't dirty rats with wings. They are extremely photogenic. They are war heroes. They cure depression. And what the fuck have I done with my life!

I also learnt that Christophe Davidson has entrancing, dreamy eyes. He looks deep into every set of peepers staring back at him. You feel needed and wanted here in this tiny space. Loved. But of course he's canvassing for audience members to participate in opening skits. Dammit, I got sucked into the Christophe eye-vortex!

He is forthcoming with his life experiences. He grew up with lots of women around him, and he loves dancing. He thinks Patrick Swayze was a bit of alright. He also has his chest hair waxed into a certain shape, but I will say no more because you have to see it for yourself. Warning: there is PG rated boy-undressing in this show.

And then there are pigeons. While going through a phase of depression, a friend told Christophe he had to be interested in something, so he started taking pictures of pigeons. It's weird, it's random, but it worked. Now, wherever he goes, when he sees these much-maligned birds they make him smile. So that's what being happy is all about. Pigeons.

He's done some serious life thinking and he's come out the other side with a big heart and soul that doesn't care about money or material goods. He's got massive social consciousness going on behind the funny. And there is lots of funny. There are some good jokes about men, women, love and dating. I sure haven't seen such an excellent flaccid penis impersonation in a while.

If you're the luckiest audience member, you'll actually get a Canadian bear hug.

Honestly, after seeing the end tribute dance to the tune of 'Time of Your Life', I wanted to wrap this man up and take him home to show mum.

Chuckle Factor: 3.5/5
